First Media Session: The Art of Asking Better Questions

On January 22 2026, Gothenburg Media Hub hosted the very first event in our new series Media Sessions, focusing on professional development for journalists and media professionals in West Sweden.

Our guest for the evening was freelance journalist and author Martin Röshammar, who shared insights and practical advice on interview techniques, drawing from his book Att intervjua – Att fråga är att lyssna.

The conversation explored how to ask questions that lead to more engaging answers, how to become a better listener and more observant interviewer and how to navigate interviews when they take an unexpected turn.

Through concrete examples and reflections, Martin highlighted the importance of presence, curiosity and flexibility in the interview situation and reminded us that strong interviews are often just as much about listening as they are about asking questions.

The audience included journalists and professionals from fields such as culture, media, communications, and education. The session was moderated by journalist and Gothenburg Media Hub member Tåve Jernmark, and participants contributed with thoughtful and engaged questions.

A big thank you to Martin Röshammar for generously sharing his time and expertise and to everyone who attended. Special thanks as well to Merle Schaack and Regine Glass for helping organise this first Media Session.

This event marked the start of the Media Sessions series – a set of monthly gatherings continuing throughout the winter and spring. The next Media Session will take place on March 25 and will focus on book publishing. More information coming soon.
